Sell used College Textbooks and Save Money

Have you ever managed to save money by actually selling all your used college textbooks? At one time, this used to be a really popular thing for young college graduates to do. They never really felt like they had completed a course until they succeeded in selling those textbooks to someone else. They never got closure until then. These days things are picking up again for the used college textbook market. Those books have never been more expensive, and arguably, there isn't a more angry captive market in the world than college textbook buyers who are forced to buy new.

But if you are going to sell used college textbooks, you do need to do it the right way so that you get the kind of price your books can command.

In fact, it could be good idea to start using your books carefully right from the start just so that you can get a good price for them. And once you're ready to sell them, you could wipe them down, make sure that there are no dog-eared pages, and so on. You need to do all this because the better the shape of your books are in, the better the price they can fetch.

How do you know how much you can make when you sell used college textbooks? You could start out by calling local bookstores to see if they have any need for the textbooks you have to sell. Check out how much they offer. Websites like Amazon, Half and Alibris will often show you exactly how much you can get, too. Make sure that you're using the exact ISBN number of your book when you scope the market out though. You don't want to check the price out of another book that's nearly the same.

And then, comes the time you actually sell. Timing when you sell can be kind of important. Basically, there are going to be lots of people right after finals around on the market with lots of those books. In other words, there could be a glut in the market of the kind of textbooks you trying to sell. Forget about selling then. Just wait until the next semester begins, so that you can get new students interested who neglected to buy when there was a glut in the market. You'll get your best price then.

Selling directly to a new student is the way to go if you can possibly find a buyer. In a face-to-face sale, you don't pay a middleman like a store owner. You get it all. You'll actually get more than the prices Amazon and the rest of them advertise. Of course, it takes time to find a buyer. You can advertise to sell used college textbooks in the forums, on Craigslist, eBay and so on.
